Terms of Use
Last updated
Porchlit turns articles and feeds you choose into audio you can listen to. These terms apply when you use Porchlit at feed-voice.aleksiy.dev, its installed app, or its share and embed links. Porchlit is run by an independent developer ("we", "us"). If you use Porchlit, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy.
The free plan and the beta
- The free plan costs nothing. We take no payments and ask for no card.
- Porchlit is in beta. That is why the terms below allow for change.
- The service can change, pause, or end. Features can change or go away, and we can reset or remove beta data if we must. We will try to give notice before a big change.
- Fair-use limits apply. We can limit how much audio an account generates each day and how many feeds an account follows. We can slow or stop work that puts too much load on the service.
Your account
- You sign up with an email address and a password. We send a link to verify your email address. You must verify it before Porchlit makes audio or checks feeds for you.
- Keep your password private. You are responsible for what happens in your account.
- You can delete your account at any time from your profile. ThePrivacy Policysays what deletion removes.
What you add
You choose the articles, websites, and feeds that Porchlit reads. Porchlit fetches those pages, extracts their text, and makes audio for you to listen to. Please only add content that you have the right to access and to listen to this way. If you add a private feed and its sign-in details, you must have permission to use them.
The articles belong to their authors and publishers. Porchlit gives you no rights in them. Audio that Porchlit makes is for your personal listening.
Share and embed links
You can make a share link or an embed code for a recording. Anyone who has the link can play that audio without an account, and the link can spread past the people you send it to. Only share audio that you have the right to share. You can revoke a share link at any time, and the link then stops working.
Acceptable use
Do not use Porchlit to:
- break the law or infringe someone else's rights;
- share or publish audio of content that you have no right to distribute;
- overload, probe, or attack the service, or get around its limits or access controls;
- scrape the service, or resell or rebroadcast its audio.
We can remove content, disable share links, or suspend an account that breaks these terms.
Copyright and content reports
Porchlit narrates third-party articles. Share and embed links can make that audio public. If you hold the rights to a work and Porchlit audio uses it without your permission, tell us atporchlit@aleksiy.dev. Please include:
- the share or embed link, or the address of the original article, so we can find the audio;
- the work you own, or a link to it;
- your name and a way to reach you;
- a statement that you own the rights or act for the owner, and that you believe the use is not authorized.
When a report is complete, this is what happens:
- We remove the audio and disable every share and embed link to it, as soon as we can.
- We can tell the account that shared the audio that we removed it, and why.
- If you shared the audio and think we removed it by mistake, email us and say why. We will review it.
- We close the accounts of people who infringe more than once.
You can use the same address to report audio that is abusive or unlawful for another reason.
No warranty
Porchlit is a beta and is provided "as is" and "as available". Generated speech can mispronounce words, skip text, or contain errors. Feeds can fail to update, and audio can be late or missing. To the extent the law allows, we give no warranties and we are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss from using or being unable to use Porchlit.
Changes to these terms
We can update these terms. When we do, we change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using Porchlit after a change, the new terms apply.
